THEORY REVIEW PACKETS
The goal of the THEORY TEST REVIEW PACKETS is to reinforce theory concepts taught in preparation for the Texas Music Teachers Association theory tests. They are
not designed to teach the concepts for you, but rather to teach good techniques for taking the tests.
There are several possible presentation possibilities you might use.
1. Photocopy the pages and give to the students in packet form. You may reproduce as many copies as necessary for your studio use only.
2. Laminate the pages and place in a binder for continuous reuse.
3. Add an audio tape reading the package materials for those students needing not only to read, but also needing to
hear the suggestions one more time.
4. A worksheet on ear-training has been included to be used at the discretion of the teacher. Please refer to old ear-training guides for suitable examples.
5. Include an actual practice test for the student to complete after finishing the worksheets.
Also, depending on how each student works, you may want to:
1. Send home the whole set of worksheets and answer keys, allowing the students to check themselves and learn where their problem areas are.
2. Send only the worksheets either singly or as a group and you check their answers. Warn students to disregard instructions at bottom of worksheets.
3. Have the students complete worksheets in class or at a workstation the week before the test date.
Again, the packets will merely reinforce areas where common mistakes are made. We still leave to you, the teacher, the responsibility of teaching the theory concepts.
