This supplementary material contains step by step directions with examples for creating new music using the chord progressions from two well-known compositions. (Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D and Heart and Soul)  It also contains reproducible materials for students which have the steps necessary for writing their own compositions using these progressions.

The following excerpt is from a piece composed by Glenna O'Dell.  This composition was premiered by Metroplex Music Teachers Association's Texas/American Ensemble Team in 2003 and again in 2008.
