Composition Quickstart comes from our Melody Dicer Games.  These games are designed to limit the choices each student has when developing an opening motive and the associated measures to create an eight bar period or section.  Because the choices are limited, melodies can be developed very quickly.

The games can be used by individual students or by groups.

Each Dicer Game is constructed in a different key.  

• Dicer 1 is in D Dorian.  

• Dicer 2 is in C Major.  

• Dicer 3 is in E flat major.  

• Dicer 4 is in e harmonic minor.  

They are also in different time signatures.  

• Dicer 1 is in 4/4 time.  

• Dicer 2 is in 3/4 time.  

• Dicer 3 is in 5/4 time 

• Dicer 4 is in 6/8 time.

Cards from the different games can be combined in different ways to create a variety of keys or meters.
