Why teach music theory?
Because they want to know how music works!
McDell Publications designs and publishes creative resources for helping students have a better understanding of music theory. Each product is student tested.
We have developed materials so that teachers and students can create file folder games. These games have concepts from as basic as the names of the lines and spaces to as advanced as key signatures and vocabulary. We find that the students learn faster and retain the knowledge longer when presented and reinforced in a game format.
We have also designed worksheets for building all the major and minor scales. These are prepared in such a way as to encourage students to not only see how the scales look on the staff, but also on the keyboard.
And especially for teachers in Texas, we have a complete set of Theory Review Packets that are created to reinforce all the concepts needed for each level of the Texas Music Teachers Association Theory Testing Program. These packets are not designed to teach the ideas on each level, but simply to reinforce what has already been taught with hints for better testing. For more information on the Texas Music Teachers Association, please go to www.tmta.org.

For fun reading and play, The Magical Note Family Coloring Book shouldn't be missed. This book uses a fairy tale type story to explain how basic note values divide and how time signatures work.
In each of these areas except for the Flashcards and The Magical Note Family book, the purchaser will receive masters from which they may make as many student copies as they wish. The use is restricted to the purchaser’s studio, but is otherwise unlimited.
